Jayfeather's ear twitched as he listened to Cinderheart ramble on from next to him. His eyes were kept firmly shut as his head lay against his pale paws, as if trying to block out the fluffy she-cat's constant yammering.
"It was really fun, actually," Cinderheart continued, "I would've thought Lionblaze would be a pain to hold a competition against, but he was actually a perfect racing partner! Who would of thought!"
Jayfeather let out a groan. "Look, I'm glad you and my brother had a blast. But after hearing the same story three times in one day, it gets kinda boring to listen to," he said in annoyance.
Cinderheart flicked her tail against his shoulder in a friendly manner. "Alright, alright. Don't get your tail in a twist," she joked playfully. She let out a sigh. "You know, that brother of yours really isn't that bad."
With that the ThunderClan she-cat rested her head against his shoulder, and after a minute or two, Jayfeather was aware by her slowed breathing that she had fallen asleep. After a couple more moments of silence, the gray tabby slowly lifted his head. His blind blue eyes fell over the she-cat and a frown formed on his face.
The tom thought about walking in her dreams for a moment, but he had a feeling he already knew what she was dreaming about. The medicine cat let out a long, frustrated sigh. It was time for him to face the undeniable truth.
He was losing her.
He knew- as much as he disliked the fact - that he was in love with the preppy, energetic cat that was Cinderheart. But it was against the code for a medicine cat to ever love, so instead of confessing to her, he just kept quiet. He knew he should be happy that she was finally finding someone else to love, but he couldn't overcome the selfish feeling of jealousy inside him. He didn't want her to go, to be someone else's, much less his own brother's!
But he also knew that it would be better for her. It would be unfair to keep her all to himself, to the bitter blind medicine cat that rarely ever opened up to anybody. Yes…maybe Lionblaze would be better for her afterall.
The tom cat let out a sigh and dropped his head back onto his paws, letting Cinderheart's sweet scent waft into his nose. He was losing her, but at the same time he was letting her follow the path to a better life.
Yeah, the story is sappy and all, but I'm weird and sensitive.
Jayfeather and Cinderheart have always been my favorite warriors pairing, and no amount of canon can ever change that. >:I
I personally would've loved to see them end up together, since they've both gone through so much together from what I've read in the books.
Even though I absolutely despise LionxCinder, I guess this is a bit of a post scene from Fading Echoes
, like right after CInderheart and Lionblaze's race by the lakeshore. Poor Jay-Jay, letting the person you love go is defenitely one of the hardest things to do.
